Karavostasi Trip 14-11-10

Our plan is to travel to Karavostasi, north west of Morphou in Northern Cyprus. The site we intend to visit is an old copper mine, which was closed during the troubles in the 74. It is currently owned by the American Mining Corporation (AMC), but is inactive. It is an open mine, so no tunnels. Following the visit to the mine, and time allowing, we will then go to the coast, a few kilometres away, to shoot the pier which was used to load the ore onto ships for transportation. At the mine site, you will find railway engines and rolling stock abandoned when the mine was closed, along with other machinery and some buildings.

It will be nice for us all to meet at a certain point before we cross over to the North. The place we have decided will be Astromeritys Restaurant. Just before we need to cross over. You will find this on the Nicosia - Troodos Junction on the B9.

The Red dot indictaes the area the restaurant is located.

If we aim to meet there at 9am on Sunday morning then we will all head to Zodia together. We will be stopping along the way collocting photographs of interest from the journey so it's best to set off with plenty of time in mind.

For all of our members coming from the paphos side there will be a different meeting point for you at Limnitis, details of that will be sent out with your e-mail.

The following map wil show the area we are aiming for

We will be also crossing through two main areas to get to Karavostasi, which are highlighted in Green below.
